Stories that Heal Humanity and Inspire  Fairness

  Thulasi and Maitreyi

Thulasi (in Sanskrit) or Tulsi (Holy Basil) as it is pronounced in the west is a sacred plant indigenous to India. It is a nervine tonic and a healer of many diseases.

Films if not carefully curated can leave the nervous system depleted and the mind dull , brainwashed or in chaos.  Maitreyi has seen that the process of filmmaking can be extractive and exploitative if one is not aware. At Thulasi films we are committed to production services that work in harmony with life/nature and support regenerative models. Thulasi is a healer of trauma and bringer of abundance and life.

Mai or Maitreyi, the founder, has been in film since 1992. She has a deep connection to the Thulasi plant since a child and is grateful to be living on Turtle Island and Squamish territories in  Vancouver.

Thulasi is the incarnation of mother Lakshmi who embodies aligned abundance. She teaches us to savour the fruits of the world through cultivating right relationship to it by stewarding the earth and its people.

We bring this ethos into filmmaking and redefine storytelling. With our passion for life and the art of filmmaking, we create stellar end products with harmonious productions within the budget.  Maitreyi grew up with a thulasi plant in her courtyard which you can still find in many traditional homes. It reminds us of the healing available to us through symbolism and the wisdom of the ancestors

Maitreyi joined  BSc in Visual Communication in 1992. She graduated with topping her class in screenwriting. She has worked with, Zee Tamil, UTV, Gaumond - Boreales for Canal Plus, Footcandles and other production houses. She has worked on more than 50 commercials, television programs and English, French and Tamil feature films as assistant director

She then started her own production house first in India where she produced/directed and won awards. She now lives in Vancouver where she only directs and produces projects close to her heart.

She also lived, studied with and served her acharini or spiritual guide in South India for many years and was given the title of Yoga acharini ( life guide) amongst many other titles. She is a wisdom keeper from India whose vocation is to share full spectrum, decolonised Yoga and Tantra.  In Vancouver her not for profit Arkaya Foundation facilitates many in person and online programs. Maitreyi is also instrumental in spreading the wisdom of indigenous cultures native to Canada. Her events/programs foster relationships between the Indians and the Indians. She is a key note speaker and corporate trainer on subjects like self mastery, integrated leadership and stress management. She has trained over 80 organisations. arkaya.net

"Professionalism at its best! thulasifilms' attention to deta

It is pleasure to say few words about Yogacharni Maitreyi . I had  the privilege to work with her on the film "Karma" Our joint perspective of Art and Artist as healer was beautiffully explored. Maitreyi brought to light a healer in the true sense of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health

Though we came from 2 different perspectives, fusion of thinking and best of the east and west was captured in the project . My sincere congratulations and best wishes to Yogacharni and hope we can continue this important work in future .

il and creative approach made our project a success."
